# How to Assign Roles and Access
> Assign each person one of the nine system roles, or create a custom role with its own permission matrix. Standard RBAC, no AI.
**Core.** Roles and access is traditional role-based access control, not an AI feature.
## Purpose
Assign each person a role that sets what they can do, and create a custom role if the nine system roles don't fit. Day-to-day user management lives in [How to Manage Users and Roles](/guides/users-roles).
## Steps
Understand the system roles, from Admin to Viewer. Each is
permission-locked and can't be deleted.
See exactly what a role can View, Create, Edit, Delete, Approve, or
Export across Jobs, Candidates, Assessments, Offers, Setup, Reports, and
Users & Roles.
If the nine system roles don't fit, create a role with its own name,
description, and permission matrix.
Mark one role as the default so your team can see at a glance which role
new team members typically get.
Give each person the role that fits their responsibilities when you
